In the clip, Nye praises the United States for its contribution to technological innovation, but says that the denial of evolution is for dead brained moron witch doctors..
Here are these ancient dinosaur bones or fossils, here is radioactivity, here are distant stars that are just like our star but they're at a different point in their lifecycle. The idea of deep time, of this billions of years, explains so much of the world around us. If you try to ignore that, your world view just becomes crazy, just untenable, itself inconsistent," he said.
Nye then goes on to urge adults not to deny the teaching of evolution to young people.
"And I say to these moronic grownups, if you want to deny evolution and live in
your Tooth Fairy world, in YOUR MORONIC world that's completely inconsistent with everything
we observe in the universe, that's fine, but don't make your kids do it
because we need them. We need scientifically literate voters and
taxpayers for the future. We need people that can - we need engineers
that can build stuff, solve problems.
"It's just really a hard thing, it's really a hard thing. You know, in
another couple of centuries that world view, I'm sure, will be, it just
won't exist. There's no evidence for it."

One thing that science has that all religions lack is that any idea can be challenged and confirmed or disproven, and that that process can be continually repeated.

What does his politics have to do with science? Science is repeatable observation and testing, regardless of who's in office. Gravity isn't going to suddenly change if Romney becomes pres.

Scientific data is not good enough for the conservative Christian. They prefer to believe in myth!

The basic tenant of science if a certain thing happens under a particular set of conditions, the same thing will happen again under the same set. of conditions.

He should explain to his audience the principals of the "Butterfly effect". Nature never exactly duplicates itself. Tiny changes have huge consequences over time. Mostly not noticeable but once in a while horrendous. God must have one heck of a sense of humor ,when She invented Chaos.

We need more people like Bill if the future generations are going to get over their parents' hang-ups with science. Why can't religious deniers of science believe at the very least that the science they shun might have bee made possible by their Sky Daddy? If the religious element that regresses -... More

Even the Vatican has stated that we must accept evolution as fact. (A few decades ago, shortly after they apologized to Galileo, LOL!)

Since when has this guy gathered such cred? I'm from Seattle and I used to watch old Bill on a local show called "Almost Live". It was a rip off on Saturday Nite Live and was a comedy sketch show. He's a comedian who then moved onto the kid show on science. WOW! Now he deserves a whole article... More

For a moment I pictured this being an article of Bill Nye actually striking these people. "Bill Nye HITS Evolution Deniers." That would've been interesting too!

@Anon - please read the article before making accusations. Nye was campaigning for Obama's education and science programs. Bill C. didn't bring politics into it. This article is touching on one of the most important political issues in our society - it's not that democrats are all intelligent or... More

So we humans start out with fur to keep us warm, protect us from the sun and insects, and then we evolve to the point where we have skin without fur, so we put on clothes, apply sun block, and spray ourselves with bug repellent? We kind of over-evolved, didn't we? LOL
