   if any of this universal background check stuff passes, im not going to buy anymore guns. I believe this sentiment, generalized to millions of people, is one of the hoped-for effects. Guns, if they have a moral dimension, are good. Without guns, the strong can always dominate the weak; the many can always dominate the few; and men can always dominate women. A gun gives each person an agency equivalent to his (or her) moral standing. In my humble opinion, those who teach correct and proper gun use are doing G-d's work. Reply With Quote

   so the gun industry realy has a big concern about the comming
   new laws.....if they pass All things considered I have enough for the tasks I keep firearms for. Over half of what I own falls into that category and I haven't bought a 'new' gun since 2009. I don't plan on ever selling anything, so I personally shouldn't be all that affected by UBCs.
   The idea is stupid though, and a waste of taxpayer money to boot. Conventional wisdom told me the blood was really flowing in the streets until 1968 when Congress saved us with the GCA. I later went and checked the homicide rate over the years though and it looks like the 1950s & 60s weren't all that bad. It didn't get ugly till the 70s, stayed really bad till 1991, and then started dropping like a rock and has continued dropping to this day. Apparently NICS didn't kick in until Nov 1998, so it didn't cause the drop that started in 1991. Background checks sound nice in sound bites but I can't help but be left with the conclusion that they don't accomplish anything.

I can't, for instance, play around like Steve McQueen with a Mare's Leg until I get a couple of those. I can't shoot 1500+ yard bullseye until I get a .50 BMG.

   My husband just bought an M1 Carbine clone in .22rf for our daughter. It is not only cute but fun! Donna is hoping someday the grownups will stop using it and actually let her have it. I've considered an Auto Ordnance M1 if for no other reason than I wouldn’t be competing with everyone else for the ammunition.

    That's a key point.
    I think I'm at a point where my money would be better spent on necessary accessories (spare magazines and such) and ammunition for the weapons I currently own. There is such a thing as a tesseract. Reply With Quote

    Last two trips to the range, we took and shot about half the collection. The guns that don't make the trip -- a toolbox gun, a couple pocket pistols, and the shotguns.
    So now I lust after more! Paul
